# Ba Futuru (For the Future)

> Ba Futuru is a leading national nonprofit organization in Timor-Leste dedicated to peace-building, human rights education, and community development for women, youth, and children. Founded in 2004, Ba Futuru operates across all 13 municipalities of Timor-Leste.

## Mission

To build a peaceful, positive and productive Timor-Leste through innovative approaches that protect children, reduce violence, empower women and inspire young learners.

## Vision

To create a Timor-Leste free of violence, where all citizens, especially women, children and young people, can engage meaningfully in the country's development in a peaceful, positive and productive way.

## Strategic Pillars

- Protecting Children: Equipping children with knowledge to defend themselves from violence and abuse. Training educators, parents, police, and community leaders.
- Reducing Violence: Preventing violence against children, women, and vulnerable populations through education and outreach.
- Empowering Women: Building on gender equality work to enhance women's economic and social empowerment. Developing female leaders as change agents.
- Inspiring Young Learners: Targeting schools and educators to improve learning outcomes and promote child-centered education.

- DAME Program (Drama, Artes, Media no Edukasaun): Using creative disciplines to inspire and create positive change.
- Pathway to Justice (Dalan ba Justisa): Addressing violence prevention and access to justice for survivors.
- Early Childhood Development: Early intervention for at-risk youth, addressing educational gaps.
- Quality Learning Environments: Creating non-violent learning environments for young people.
- Consolidating Peace & Democracy: Violence prevention and peace-building initiatives.
- Safe Dili Arts Festival: Community-based arts initiative promoting safety and peacebuilding.
- PeaceJam Youth Leadership: Youth leadership development conferences.
- Parenting Program: Promoting responsible, non-violent parenting practices.
- Women's Economic Empowerment: Enhancing women's economic and social empowerment.

## 2024 Impact

- 65 children enrolled in play-based early childhood program
- 4,630 theater audiences reached through 21 community performances
- 150 women trained in leadership, governance, and rights
- 20 years of impact in Timor-Leste
