Breaking the Cycle of Violence
Violence prevention and peace-building initiatives that work to break cycles of violence and build sustainable peace across communities.
Consolidating Peace and Democracy works at both the community and national level to prevent violence and strengthen democratic institutions in Timor-Leste. The program trains community leaders, youth groups, and local government officials in conflict resolution, mediation, and participatory governance. Through traditional justice mechanisms like Nahe Biti Boot and modern peace-building frameworks, the program builds bridges between customary and formal systems. Community theater performances reaching over 4,630 audience members in 2024 raise awareness about violence prevention and civic participation.
This program is part of Ba Futuru's comprehensive approach to building a peaceful, positive, and productive Timor-Leste. Through interactive, human rights-based training models, arts integration, and community leadership strengthening, we work to create lasting change across all 13 municipalities.
