What Is the Women's Economic Empowerment?
Women's Empowerment and Action
Builds on gender equality work to enhance women's economic and social empowerment, developing female leaders as change agents.
Women's Economic Empowerment builds on Ba Futuru's gender equality work to advance women's full participation in economic and civic life. In 2024, 150 women were trained in leadership, governance, and women's rights across Ermera and Covalima. The program develops women's cooperatives and savings groups, provides business skills training, and supports women's participation in local governance structures. Participants gain confidence, financial literacy, and leadership capabilities that extend beyond the program into lasting community impact. Many graduates have gone on to hold leadership positions in their villages and municipalities.
This program is part of Ba Futuru's comprehensive approach to building a peaceful, positive, and productive Timor-Leste. Through interactive, human rights-based training models, arts integration, and community leadership strengthening, we work to create lasting change across all 13 municipalities.
